Murchison Falls Conservation Area
The Nile river banks from the Murchison falls National Park offer good sites for fishing in Uganda. If you have your own tackle, the Nile river banks offer you an opportunity to catch the Nile perch and the Tiger fish. The largest confirmed perch taken from the banks of the Nile on rod and line weighed 73kg, and was caught by C D Mardach in 1959. However a fish recorded as 106kg was caught in 2001 while local fishermen have always netted specimens weighing up to 160kg.
Lake Victoria
Another exceptional site for spot fishing is the Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is the world's second largest freshwater lake covering an area of 67,850 sq km. This vast expanse, about the size of the Republic of Ireland, forms the headwaters of the River Nile. From this lake the major fish species caught is the Nile perch, lung fish, cat fish, Tilapia among others.
Ssesse Islands
The 84 islands that form the Ssese island archipelago also offer nice spots for fishing in Uganda’s exceptional water body. Ssesse islands lie some 55 km out into Lake Victoria from Entebbe town, a major entry point to the country. Your fishing trip to this island not only gives you the opportunity to go fishing in the unpolluted clean waters but also gives an indispensable chance to interact with nature given the thick, tropical forest; which is home to monkeys and many species of bird; as well as the white serene sandy beaches at the lake shores.
