This Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you to Uganda’s best primate tracking destinations: Ngamba Islands Chimpanzee Sanctuary for chimpanzee Viewing, Kibale Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking and habituation experience, Maramagambo Forest, and Bwindi Impenetrable park for mountain gOrilla tracking. The tour later takes you to Rwanda’s Volcanoes Gorilla Park for a gorilla trekking expedition through this montane tropical rain forest.
TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1: Chimpanzee Viewing in Ngamba Islands
Go track chimpanzee in Ngamba Island after breakfast. You will be collected by our guide from you Hotel to transfer you to the Jetty which will take you to Ngamba Island. You will reach in time for feeding the chimps to watch them feed- its astounding. In the afternoon you will go for a walk on the island and then transfer back to spend the night in Entebbe. Dinner and overnight at Botanical beach Hotel / Resort Beach Entebbe.
Day 2: Travel to Kibale Forest
Have breakfast to travel to west of Uganda to Kibale National park. A park known to have the largest number of primates in Africa. You will reach in the late afternoon to go for an evening walk in the park to look out for some primates like the red monkeys, bush babies etc. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Safari Lodge / Rwenzori view guest house / basic Sky tree house. Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale
Go chimpanzeestracking in the park to have a look at these close relatives of man. This will take you half day to have lunch and then transfer to Bigodi Wetland sanctuary for a walk. The sanctuary is composed of picturesque flora and fauna that is spectacular. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Safari Lodge / Rwenzori view guest house / basic Sky tree house. (BLD)
Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP
Have breakfast to transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will reach in the after noon and then go for a boat trip on the Kazinga channel. This trip will reward you with game like hippos, buffaloes and elephants at the shores with plenty of birds. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura
In the morning transfer to the Kyambura gorge for chimpanzee tracking. This is one of the most neglected sectors of the park and yet it has a lot to offer in terms of primates. You will spend their half day –its exhilarating- and then go back to the Lodge for lunch and rest. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 6: Maramagambo Forest
Spend the whole day in Maramagambo forest. You will go for walk in the forest and to the Bat caves for thousands of bats, pythons and monitor lizards if you are lucky and more chimps. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 7: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable NP through the Ishasha sector where you should watch out for tree climbing Lions enroute. Youwill reach in the afternoon to have lunch and go for a walk in the surrounding communities for entertainment and art crafts at fair prices. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla forest Camp / Buhoma Community bandas.
Day 8: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Forest
Go for briefing at the park headquarters after breakfast and then leave at 9:00 am to the forest for Gorilla tracking. Encountering these humble giants is un predictable and tiring. This is due to the fact that these gorillas move with availability of food. Therefore the time ranges between 2- 8 hours. However the thrill of encountering the gorillas will erase the strain you went through in trying to find them. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla forest Camp / Buhoma Community bandas.
Day 9: Drive to Rwanda
Transfer to Rwanda to drive through Kisoro and the gorgeous mountain sceneries to the Rwanda border and across to Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge in Ruhengeri.
Day 10: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes Gorilla Park
You will be transferred to Virunga Volcanoes to go tracking the Dian Fossey Mountain Gorillas after briefing at the park head quarters. Track the gorillas for about 2-8 hours, spend 1 hour with them and then drive back to Kisoro. Dinner and overnight at Kisoro Tourist Hotel / Kisoro Travellers Hotel.
Day 11: Return Trip to Kampala
Transfer back to Kampala to have a lunch stop in one of the towns for lunch and then proceed to reach in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel / Serena Hotel, Hotel Africana.
