Uganda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Tour – 5 days Chimpanzee Viewing Tour on Ngamba Islands & Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenertrable National Park
This 5 days Uganda Safari starts and ends in Kampala. This tour takes you to for chimpanzee tracking as well as mountain gorilla tracking in Uganda’s best chimpanzee and gorilla tour destinations. The safari starts with a full day chimpanzee viewing excursion on the beautiful evergreen Ngamba Islands. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is found 23 Kilometers off shore from Entebbe on Lake Victoria. It is located on a beautiful forested island and is home to approximately 40 chimpanzees rescued from poachers and other forms of private captivity. The semi-wild environment allows for close viewing of the animals in their natural habitat.
The safari will later take you for a mountain gorilla tour to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will track the endangered mountain gorillas. Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and memorable encounter that you do not need to miss. There are four habituated families of mountain gorillas in the park living in the thicker tropical forests. Tracking from Bwindi is however a more challenging adventurous activity given that it involves you walking on the steeper forested hillsides looking for these great apes. Other residents of the park include birds, monkeys and orchids.
NB; 1 gorilla permit is included in the price and gorilla tracking subjected to availability of the permit.
TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1: NGAMBA SANCTUARY
In the morning transfer to Entebbe to reach in time for the morning boat ride to Ngamba Island the Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Lake Victoria. Managed by the Jane Good all Institute It habituates about 35 chimpanzees that are helpless in the wild. You will reach in time for their feeding to spend some time with them. In the afternoon you will go for a nature walk on the Island. Later on you will be transferred back to Entebbe. Dinner and overnight at the Botanical beach Hotel / Resort beach
Day 2: TRANSFER TO BWINDI GORILLA FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Drive from Entebbe to head west of Uganda-Bwindi Impenetrable forest. You will have a lunch stop and then proceed to reach in the late afternoon. You will be welcomed by the neighboring local communities with cultural performances. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Buhoma tented Camp.
Day 3 & 4: GORILLA TRACKING
Go for briefing at the park headquarters before you embarking on gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest. This trek start at 9:00 am and you will walk /trail through the forest tracks that are steep and therefore you should ask for a walking stick if you need one. This is a strenuous activity but the ecstasy obtained on encountering these humble giants erases the poor memories you went through trying to find the find these apes. The time its takes to meet mans’ close relatives is unpredictable but it ranges between 2-8 hours depending on their movement. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla forest Camp / Buhoma Community Bandas.
Day 5: TRAVEL TO KAMPALA
After these exhilarating moments in the wild we have to go back to the city. Transfer to Kampala to have a lunch stop in one of the towns of your wish. Another stop will be at the Equator for photographs to reach in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Africana / Sheraton Hotel / Serena Hotel.
