Uganda Gorilla Tour - 8 days Uganda Safari to Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi Gorilla Forest
This is an 8 days Uganda safari which starts and ends in Kampala takes you for a gorilla tour, chimpanzee tracking and wildlife safari. This safari can also be tailored for you on a private basis. This safari starts with a game viewing tour in Murchison Falls National park, visit to Kibale tropical moist Forest with its thirteen species of primates, for tracking the noisy chimpanzee families and Queen Elizabeth located on the savannah plains located on the foothills of the mountains of the moon.
On a wildlife safari through Queen Elizabeth, expect seeing the great game of Africa such as elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and leopards. In Queen Elizabeth, track chimpanzees from the Kyambura gorge while in the Ishasha sector go for a hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees.
The safari will then take you to Bwindi Gorilla National Park, home to half of the World’s mountain gorillas. Bwindi has four habituated families and the gorillas there live in thicker tropical Afro-montane forest.
SAFARI ITINERARY
Day 1: Kampala -Murchison Falls National Park
In the morning after breakfast our safari guide will pick you from your hotel for a drive south west through Nakasongora Masindi to reach the park in the afternoon. Have a stop over at Masindi for lunch and later drive to the park. On reaching the park you will hike to the top of the falls to see how the calm Nile forcing itself through a narrow gorge through which it explodes into the falls. After you will transfer to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge / Sambiya River lodge /Red chili Camp.
Day 2: Game drive / Boat ride
Early in the morning before dawn you will go for a game drive through the park searching for predators and other game. The drive will reward you with wild game such as hyenas, leopards, elephants, hartebeests, Oribis, Uganda Kobs, giraffes to mention. In the afternoon you will go for a boat ride on the Victoria Nile that takes you to the bottom of the falls. The ride is rewarding with various game such as Crocodiles, Hippos, elephants, buffaloes, and plenty of birds like the Kingfishers. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge / Sambiya River lodge /Red chili Camp.
Day 3: The Albertine Rift - Kibale forest Journey
After breakfast, start off to Kibale National park located in the Western part of the country. The drive takes about 8 hours passing you through the Albertine Rift. Reaching Fort portal in the afternoon have lunch and later transfer to your lodge. Time permitting go for a nature walk in the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. The walk will reward you with primates like Bush babies and colobus monkeys and other species both fauna and flora. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge / Mountains of the moon / Primates lodge.
Day 4; Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest
After an early breakfast drive to Kibale Forest National Park Headquarters. Get briefed about the whole process of chimpanzee tracking and then you will head along the tracks in the forest to search for chimpanzees. During the walk through the park, the destination guide will provide you with information about not only on chimpanzees but also on flora and fauna. You will then meet the chimpanzees and spend sometime watching them feed and making theirs calls. If you are lucky to find then hunting this is the best time, as you watch them share the meat amongst themselves. After tracking you will then drive Queen Elizabeth National Park to reach in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Mweya Institute of ecology.
Day 5: Game drive / Boat ride of Kazinga channel.
Wake up before sunrise for a cup of tea or a glass of water and then set off to the park tracks for a game drive to be able to see predators as they return to their hide outs and the early risers. During the drive, watch out for game like the Leopards, Lions, giant forest hogs, hyenas, Uganda kobs, warthogs and others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for heavy breakfast and then later have lunch to transfer to the Park headquarters for the Boat ride. The launch that takes you along the Kazinga channel that connects Lakes George and Edward will reward you with game like Hippos, elephants and buffaloes at the shores not forgetting plenty of birds. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Mweya Hostel.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking /Transfer to Bwindi
In the morning you will have breakfast and then drive to the Kyambura gorge to go track chimpanzee. The walk will reward you with other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, and other game. After tracking you will drive through the Ishasha sector to head to Bwindi impenetrable National Park. The drive will reward you with a game drive enroute to view animals like the tree climbing Lions, Uganda Kobs to mention. You will reach the par in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Buhoma homestead / Buhoma community Bandas.
Day 7; Mountain Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest
In the morning you will have heavy breakfast and with packed lunch you will transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and then later on at 9:00 am you will set off along the tracks in the thick forest to go search for these great apes. Depending on the movement of these humble giants the walk might take between 2-9 hours before you encounter the Gorillas. The walk is tiresome however meeting these great apes and spending some time with them while looking deep into their expressive brown eyes, is an exhilarating and heartbreaking wildlife encounter that Africa has to offer. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Buhoma homestead / Buhoma community.
Day 8: Bwindi Gorilla Forest - Kampala
In the morning you will have breakfast and then pack your luggage to start on the Journey back to Kampala. The drive will take you to stop in Mbarara for lunch and then proceed to reach Kampala in the Evening.
