Best of Uganda Safari – 10 days Gorilla, Chimps, Wildlife Safari in Uganda’s National Parks
This is a 10 days Uganda Safari taking you for the very best of tourism destinations in Uganda: Bwindi Gorilla Forest, home to more than half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world, Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s loveliest Safari destination, Queen Elizabeth National Park, a park conserving the highest biome in Africa, lake Mburo National Park, and Kibale Chimpanzee forest, a park with the highest density of chimpanzees. Safari activities therefore include mountain gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, wildlife game viewing safaris, nature walks and primate tours.
DETAILED ITINERARY FOR THIS UGANDA SAFARI
Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park
In the morning after breakfast our safari guide will pick you from your place of stay, for a drive to Murchiosn Falls National park. You will have a stopover at Masindi for lunch and proceed the park for al hike to the top of the falls to see how the Mighty Nile forces itself through a narrow gorge through which it explodes into the falls. After the tour, transfer to your lodge for Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge / Sambiya River lodge /Red chili Camp.
Day 2: Game Viewing safari in Murchison Falls
In the morning before dawn you will go for a game drive on the Northern banks of the Nile for a game viewing tour that may reward you rvarious game such as Hyenas, Leopards, elephants, hartebeests, Oribis, Uganda Kobs, giraffes, lions among others. In the afternoon you will go for a boat ride on the Victoria Nile that takes you to the bottom of the falls. The boat ride is wonderful and may reward you with game associated with water such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, and plenty of birds like the Kingfishers.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Chimpanzee forest
Early morning after breakfast, set off to Kibale National park passing through the Albertine Escarpment. The scenic drive takes you about 8 hours to reach Fort portal and passes you through the Western arm of the rift valley as well as beautiful rural countryside of Uganda. Reaching Fortportal by afternoon, have lunch and later transfer to your lodge to check in. Time permitting, go for a birding nature walk within the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. The walk may reward you with primates like Bush babies and colobus monkeys and other species both fauna and flora. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge / Mountains of the moon / Primates lodge.
Day 4; Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest
After an early breakfast and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park Headquarters. Get briefed about the whole process and tracking and then you will head along the tracks in the forest to search for chimpanzees. The walk through the park will be guided providing information about not only on chimpanzees but also on flora and fauna. After meeting the chimpanzees, return to the lodge and then set off to Queen Elizabeth National Park located on the foot hills of the mystical Rwenzori Mountains. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Mweya Institute of ecology.
Day 5: Wildlife Tour in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake up before sunrise for a cup of tea or a glass of water and then set off for a game drive through the park to see predators as they return to their hide outs and the early risers as well. During the drive watch out for game like the Leopards, Lions, giant forest hogs, hyenas, Uganda kobs, warthogs and others. After the game, drive back to the lodge for breakfast. Relax as you wait for your lunch and later transfer to the Park headquarters for the Boat ride on the Kazinga channel. The launch trip takes you along the Kazinga channel that connects Lakes George and Edward characterised with various animals that come for a drink. While on the ride, keep an eye on animals such as Hippos, elephants and buffaloes at the shores not forgetting plenty of birds. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Mweya Hostel.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge
In the morning after breakfast, drive to the Kyambura gorge to go track the elusive fast moving chimpanzees. The walk may reward you with other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, and other game. After tracking, drive through the Ishasha sector to head to Bwindi impenetrable National Park, a home to more than half of the remaining mountain gorillas. The drive is rewarding with various game enroute that may include the tree climbing Lions, Uganda Kobs, warthogs etc. Reaching the park in the evening check in at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Buhoma homestead / Buhoma community Bandas.
Day 7; Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Forest
After breakfast proceed to the park headquarters with packed lunch. Get briefed about mountain gorilla tracking in the Gorilla Forest and later set off along the tracks in the thick forest to go search for these great apes. Depending on the movement of these humble giants the walk might take between 2-9 hours before you encounter the Gorillas. The walk is tiresome however meeting these great apes and spending some time with them while looking deep into their expressive brown eyes, is an exhilarating, heartbreaking and memorable wildlife encounter that can only be taken in Uganda, Rwanda or Congo! Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Buhoma homestead / Buhoma community.
Day 8: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, drive towards Mbarara district to Lake Mburo National Park. This calls for an early start to reach Lake Mburo National Park in the afternoon. Reaching the park, check in at the safari lodge and then go for a guide foot safari to the Rwonyo area. Dinner and overnight at Mantana tented Camp/ Rwonyo Rest Camp.
Day 9: Game drive / Canoe ride.
In the morning after breakfast you will go for a game drive in the park to search for predators and other animal species like the hyenas, leopards, jackals, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, Topis and eland to mention. After the game drive, return to the Lodge for late breakfast and lunch and then in the afternoon you will go for a canoe ride on Lake Mburo to view water game. Expect seeing various swamp dwellers such as hippos, and buffaloes at the shores not forgetting the incredible water birds such as the Papyrus Gonoleks. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Tented Camp / Rwonyo Rest Camp.
Day 10; Drive to Kampala.
Have breakfast and then drive back to Kampala having a game drive enroute. Have a stopover at the equator for photography and then leisurely continue with the drive to Kampala.
